About Saint Bernard:

St. Bernard is a city located in Hamilton County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,924. The city has an industrial base much larger than is indicated by its population.

Saint Bernard Geography:

St. Bernard is located at 39°10'4" North, 84°29'42" West (39.167825, -84.495010), and along with Norwood and Elmwood Place, is an enclave surrounded by the city of Cincinnati.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.0 km2 (1.5 mi2). 4.0 km2 (1.5 mi2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Saint Bernard Demographics:

As of the census of 2000, there are 4,924 people, 2,069 households, and 1,251 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,234.5/km2 (3,196.1/mi2). There are 2,195 housing units at an average density of 550.3/km2 (1,424.7/mi2). The racial makeup of the city is 91.41% White, 6.46% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,069 households out of which 29.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.0% are married couples living together, 14.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.5% are non-families. 34.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the city the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $37,356, and the median income for a family is $45,366. Males have a median income of $35,095 versus $26,672 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,036. 8.7% of the population and 7.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.6% of those under the age of 18 and 11.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

St. Bernard has two schools, St. Bernard Elementary and St. Bernard- Elmwood Place High School. The mascot of the high school is the Titan. St. Bernard, Ohio has also adopted Katrina stricken St. Bernard, Louisiana as her sister city.
